|The Mission Valley mall is a very popular San Diego shopping center. It has an ideal location...near to Interstate 8, Interstate 5, Interstate 15, and several other freeways.
Young people like the mall because its mix of stores features a number of shops with very reasonable merchandise pricing. Yet, "old timers" also enjoy the Mission Valley Mall. Indeed, for many middle-aged San Diegans, this mall is "woven into the heart." Many of today's business and community leaders were "mall rats" at Mission Valley Mall in decades past. It's a part of the community!
Why do so many people have memories of the Westfield Mission Valley Mall? Because it originally opened in 1961...and appeared shiny and modern compared to the architecture of the time. Renovations projects have been part of the mall's history, too...but, unfortunately, they've left the mall looking like a patchwork quilt rather than an attractive and "whole-looking" entity. Yet, the Westfield Mission Valley Mall remains popular despite having less-than-stellar looks. People simply LIKE it!
